Taylor Family Digital Library
My whole life, I’ve loved libraries. My dad used to take me to a local library in suburban Toronto when we were kids, and many a wondrous hour was spent discovering new tales and landscapes.
The Taylor Family Digital Library at the University of Calgary is a modern accomplishment of stacks, services and study spaces. Every study space is wide, light and furnished with a halogen lamp (the desk spaces have lamps) and an electrical outlet. The furniture is functional and modular. The chairs for the students are adjustable in umpteen ways: I had to look up the manual (a link for which is provided on the library webpage!) to figure out what each of the knobs/switches/gears were.
I’ve spent hours, literally days and days of my life here. It’s open 24 hours so students can stay overnight to crank out papers and delve into the mysteries of theory and ideas.
